Wig Maintenance Tips ✨

Caring for a wig is essential for keeping it looking its best.

Here are 7 useful tips below to help you maintain your wig and make it last for years:

Tip #1 Understanding The Difference Between A Human Hair Wig And A Synthetic Hair Wig

It is important to know the difference between human hair wigs and synthetic hair as it affects how you should care and maintain them. Human hair wigs are stronger, and have a higher resistance to heat than synthetic ones, so it doesn’t tangle as much and hardly ever melts. High-quality synthetic wigs can look very natural and can be washed less frequently than human hair wigs, saving you money on shampoo, conditioner and styling products. Although human hair wigs are typically more expensive, they do last longer, which offsets some of the additional cost. So when you buy a wig, be on the lookout for the type of material, and always read the instructions carefully.

Tip #2 Avoid Using A Small Comb

Before wearing your wig, spray it with water and use a wide-tooth comb to comb it. As you would with your natural hair, comb from the bottom up. Carefully comb small sections at a time until you've worked your way through your hair. Tangled hair is very vulnerable to damage from small combs or brushes, so make sure you take your time combing your hair.

AVOID: Using oil is not recommended! 🙅🏽Spraying water instead as this hydrates the hair and prevents tangling.

Tip #3 Use A Special Shampoo And Conditioner

Before buying any products for your wig, you should be aware that there are specialised ones available for your wig. It is advised not to just use normal shampoo and conditioner because it contains a lot of harsh chemicals that could harm the texture of your wig, even if it is synthetic hair. When washing your wig, make sure to rinse the wig thoroughly, then gently squeeze out any excess water and lay it flat to dry. Avoid using a blow dryer or direct heat, as this can damage the fibres.

Tip #4 Avoid Using Heat On A Wig

It is important to be careful when styling your wig. Especially if it is synthetic, too much heat can damage it. Make sure to read the instructions that came with your wig to find out how much heat to use. 📔

Tip #5 Switch It Up

The downside to synthetic wigs is that they wear out faster because they're fragile compared to human hair. By wearing a human hair wig too often, you risk damaging the threads and damaging the hair's appearance and colour. For regular wig wearers, invest in more human hair wigs and switch back and forth between them.

Tip #6 Keep Your Wig Moisturised

If you have curly, textured or wavy hair, make our leave-in conditioner your best friend! Use moisturising shampoo twice a week for a weeklong effect. Massage your wig with a suitable amount of moisturiser to achieve bouncy, shiny hair. Your hair looks untangled and shiny while the waves or curls are locked in. We recommend using our Hair Moisturiser Spray to reduce breakage and keep your wig refreshed and hydrated. 🧴

Tip #7 Don’t Neglect Your Real Hair!

Wearing a wig is no excuse for your hair to be dirty, unmanageable, and dry. Your own hair should be always cleaned and conditioned! Our Wash Set Duo Bundle is perfect for restoring and strengthening Afro and Textured hair types. Whenever you put on a wig, you should braid your hair or pull it back so that it doesn't show. We recommend wearing a cap, it helps you hide your hair and keeps it clean. For an extra moisture boost pair with our hair serum or moisture boosting spray.
